vessels dis- charged merchandise for this port, of the total of 13,233 tons, only and 1,343 tons were contributed by five British vessela. The Akashi Maru showed the best return with 4,470 tons of coal from Miike, The 3.3. Prominent (Norwegian) also discharged $700 tons of rice from Saigon.

Through freights amounted to 21,018 tons, and six British ships carried 9,090 tons. The s.s. Alster (German) was best carrier with 9,930 tons from Antwerp and Sin gapore. The s... City of Glasgow (British) from Sydney, N.S., and Shanghai was second best carrier with 4,700 tons of general cargo."

S.S.Alster "Here For First Time. Another new vessel appeared ca the Harbour entry form yesterday morning. This was the s.s. Alster of the .D.L. No details are given in Lloyds Register. The a. ister is a 5,327 tons, and is commanded by, Captain. J. Meyer. She carries a crew of 37 Europeans. She dis- charged 1350 tons of cargo for this port, and was the best through cargo carrier in yesterday's returns.. Messrs. Melchers & Company are the local Agents, and it understood that this is her maiden voyage to Hong Kong She left for Shang hai at daybreak yesterday morning. Wireless Alarm For 8.8. "Tinhow." Falling To Show Lights. Chan Bung, steersman of a cargo junk appeared before Comdr. J. B. Newill at the Marine Court yester day for failing to exhibit the re gulation lights on his juak whilst under weigh. L. Sergt. Delbahunty prosecuted and the defendant plead ed guilty. A fine of $10 with the alternative of 30 days' hard labour was imposed.
