With nineteen arrivals and woven-Tilawa, May 31st. tesa departures during the 24 hours ended at 9 4.1. yesterday the cargoes discharged for Hong Kong were about average. Through freights showed an increase on the previous day's figures.

Local imports from thirteen ves selves amounted to 11,667 tons. Four British vessels contributed 3,621 tons of this total. The bost cargo rotuta was shown by the .s. Katturagian daru with 3,410 tons of salt from Port Arthur. A Gr. man steamer also carried 1,048 tons of general cargo from Hamburg and Singapore. The best British carrier was the . New Mathilde from Hodhow with 1,700 tons of general cargo.

Through freights amounted to 24,5 tons. Three British vessels carried 2,472 tons, and the best ro tua was shown by the ea. Przuaren (German) with 7,017 tons. The a.a. TWO OBSTRUCTION CHARGES.

CASE AGAINST BOAT-WOMAN

DISMISSED.

The master and the mistress of two cargo boats appeared before Commander J. B. Newill, D.S.O.; at the Marine Court yesterday for causing obstruction to other vessela in the Harbour by mooring their craft alongside the Mongkok-Shun- shuipo Ferry Wharf at Hong Kong. The master of the cargo bost plead- ed that he was not aware of the local regulations, but as he was not working cargo at the time, he was found guilty and a fine of 830 with the alternative of 10 days' hard labour was imposed.

The mistress of the cargo borr entered a plea of guilty but as the Magistrate was not satisfied with the evidence, the case was coa. tinued.

L/Sgt Goldsmith told the cours that about 12.30 pm, on the 18th instans he noticed a qumber of junks near the Mongkok-Shumstrui- po Ferry Wharf at Hong Kong. He intended to clear them at once but waited for & few minutes to see whether they would clear them selves. Later, one of the Com- pany's ferry launches „drew near, and in the attempt to get alongside the whari the launch was obliged to go full speed astern to avoid collid- fing with the junk. He then board- ed the defendant's craft and arrest- ed the mistress. Cross examined by the Court the defendant stated thus she was loading cargo preparatory to leaving the whari.

The Magistrate was of opinion that the defendant was really load- ing cargo and dismissed the charge Against her.

Asiatic deck passengers arriving in the Colony during the 24 hours ended at 9 s.in, yesterday numbered 895.
