The story of the intricate rela- tionship between big business and politics is exemplified by the China Merchants Steam Navigation Com- pany which has now been taken over by the Ministry of Communi- cations of the Nationalist Govern- ment During the wars of recent years, this Company has been suffer ing misures of ships by the military of all factions, Jabour troubles, damage to ships and loss of business so that it had practically become impossible to operate even the lucrative Yangtaze runs.
