COACHES OF THE LATEST DESIGN.

A few days ago, anys the Straits Timet, some new rolling stock ar- fived in Singaporo for ure on the trains running between Kunta Lumpur and Singapore, and it proves to be of the most modern design.

So far, two sleeping conches and restaurant oar have been sent to Singapore The programme pro- vides for about 40 now conches, of which 14 will be sleepers and the remainder travelling and restau-

rant cars..

The new stock is a great advance upon anything that has yet been attempted on the F.M.S. Railways both for comfort and appearance. In sleeping cars, which as usual are of the two berth type, much more space is allowed. There are the üsunt equipments in the shape of wash basing and face. The bell for the attendants operates a small red disc which, placed out in the cor ridor, serves as an indication to the attendant. Besides the usual bedside light, a small blue night- light is provided worked from the same switch and within easy reach of the passenger,

The colour scheme has also under gone an alteration. For the lower half, the usual deep brown has been employed. For the upper, ivory

white has been used with the letter- ing in gold with a blue back The interior fittings are ground superior to anything attempted be- fate. The panels are of mahogany with insets of satin wood.

The restaurant cara have" the hame colour scheme. There is a Dew mating arrangement, and the tables are broader, while the chairs, which are not fastened to the floor, are upholstered in leather.

The sleeping cars are 69 feet 9 inches long and weigh 31 tons. The restaurant cars are 72 feet
