RETURNS.

LOCAL IMPORTS LOW.

SEVENTEEN, ARRIVALS,

The Harbour Office returns for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yeater day morning showed that the total amount of freight entering the Colony was below average. Through cargo, however, remained normal. There were seven ressels arriving' during that period.

The Colony's imports amounted to only 6081 tons, of which, 2,827 toss were contributed by five Bri tish steamers. The best return was 1,855 tons by an American vessel.

Through freights "totalled. 19,007 tons, of which three British ships accounted for 5,239 tons. A Dutch merchantman was the heaviest con- tributor with 1,000 tons.

H... the master of a cargo bont was charged with (a) living port without a clearance or permit from the Harbour Master, and (b) with carrying 14 passengers in excess 31 the number allowed by his licence, Defendant pleaded guilty and was fined 825, or three weeks' hard labour on the first charin, and fined 870, or ten weeks' hard labour on the second charge. The sentences were to run consecutively.
