The Harbour Office returns for the 24 hours ended at 9am. yester- day showed only 11-vessels arriving into the Colony and consequently Freights both for this port and beyond were below the average.

The Colony's imports amounted to 0,355 tons, of which, 6,510 tons were contributed by British ships The two best returns were register- ed by the ss. Aweiyang, tron Bangkok. and Hofhow, and the ss. Halvard from Saigon. The first named vessel was responsible for 1,690 tons and the latter 1,600 tons. Through freights totaled to only 2,881 tona. Four British steamers Accounted for 2,281 tons. The only four figure return" was shown by the British ship Foothing. She earried 1.959 tons from Swatow.

LAURENTIC'S" COMMANDER.

Capt. E. L. Trant, of Liverpool, has been appointed commander of the new White Star liner Laurentic, now completing at Belfast for the company's Canadian service. Capt. Trant joined the White Star Liné in 1888 and has had command of several steamers since 1910.

Asiatic Deck Passengers. Asiatic deck pamengers to the mumber of 997 were brought into the Colony during the 24 hours ended at 9 am yesterday.

Shark Caught In English Channel.

A bull-nosed shark weighing halt a ton and measuring 8ft. in. from the tip of the nose to the tail was caught on November 17th in the Chanel about five miles off the Kentish coast by the crew of the motor fishing lugger Folkestone Our Willie while berring fishing. When it was captured in their net, which the shark tried to lash round ila tail, the fishermen were able to tow it to Folkestone harbour. Captain, H. Sharp, the owner of the fishing lugger, (who acted as pilot to as Gleitze, the Channel swim- mer) said that the shark was the rgest be had so far met with in the Channel. Its fine were razor- like, and it had four rows of sharp- pointed teeth.j

Estarned For Missing Passengers.

The Dutch passenger steamer Patria, from Rotterdam to Seura baya, left Colombo on her voyage to the Far East and about an hour Inter" was noticed to be returning by port. She signalled that some passengers were missing and that she was putting back to port to get them. On her arrival in port the. passengers, who were in a state of panic at being, left behind, were hastened on board and the steamer resumed her voyage,
