WAR COMEDY AT HSUCHOWFU.
MUCH MANŒUVRING BUT LITTLE FIGHTING,
CHANG TSUNG CHANG'S FORCE A RABBLE.
LADY QUARTERMASTER AND HER CO-WIVES.
TEINOTAU, December 6th. Frequently in November, the city of Hsuchowful was reported to have been taken, both by Feng Yu Hsiang and the Nanking forces. Neither report is correct. There has been very little doing on the southern front and the attack and resistance both are very tame and listless,
The big news has been from the west of Esuchowfu, where Chang Trang Chang and Feng Yu Esing have been chasing each other up and down the Lung-hai Railway.
Large numbers of soldiers were withdrawn into. Hsuchowfu, but equally large numbers could be seen going westward. There was evidence of a withdrawal, but no sign of real defeat or rout. The only thing of much significance was the retire- | ment to the north by special train of several of the favourite wives of the Northern commanders. This was taken to mean that things were looking bad for these generals.

The ostensible purpose of the march is to bring to the notice of the Government the destitution of miners, employed and unemployed; the persistent closing of mines; the provision of work by the State for unemployed miners; adequate poor relief; and the need for & pension fund for miners over 80. But none of the official Labour bodies will have anything to do with the march.
