RETURNS.
LOCAL IMPORTS. HEAVY.
THROUGH CARGOES NORMAL.
There were 25 vessels arriving into port during the 24 hours ended at 8 am yesterday, and freights for the Colony were heavy. Through, cargoes, however, did not show any increase.
Local imports amounted to 22,260 tons of which, 8,168 tous were con- tributed by seven British ships. The two best returns were 4,199 tons by the Hinsang from Sands kan and 3775 tons by the Akathi Maru, from Miike.
Through freights were manifested by only eight steamers out of the 25 arrivals, and only amounted to 10.179 tons.

There were only 870 tons car ried by British vessels. The two best returas were shown by the s.s. Fogthend (German) from Hamburg and Miri and the Zoma (Dutch) from Bremen and Manila. The former carried 0,490 tons and the latter had 2,995 tons.

Martial Law,
Two notices relating to martial lar having been enforced at Bocca Tigris appear at the Harbour Office.
The first one states that no vessels, either foreign or native, will be allowed to pass the Bocca Tigrin-between the hours of 8 pm. -and 6 s.m. Temporary exemption from examination has been granted to foreign vessels.
A later notice issued, however, states that ships can pass Bocca Tigris Forts at night, but not Whampoa. This notice is from the Consul-General at Canton.
Chandu Haul At Singapors. A When the C.N.C. steamer Anhui arrived in Singapore from Amoy last week, sho was boarded by customs officers, who discovered 180 taels of non-Government chandu in the trunk of a Chinese.
The chandu was very cleverly concealed in a wooden trunk con- sisting of two containers, "one screwed inside the oiber. In the top container was the man's clothes, but when this was unscrewed and. taken out, the chandu was discover- ed hidden in the false bottom.
The accused was charged in the Courts" and fined $300 or two months imprisonment..
