SUCCESSFUL WIND-UP OF YEAR'S RACING.

MR. HOKOM TONG ANNEXES CLASSIC" EVENTS.

"

FAIR DIVIDENDS AND GOOD SPORT.

[BY RAPIER.}·

THE

The attendance at Happy Valley on Saturday afternoon for the last Extra Race Meeting of the year was very good and shewed that the racing public remain faithful to their favourite sport despite the counter attraction of Interport Cricket and other excit ing contests.

Major-General Luard, C.B., C.M.G., was present with his daugh "ter and both Services were well represented. The usual tifin "parties were given by Messrs. Hall and Shenton, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Paterson and Mr. and Mrs. L. Dunbar and the foundation laid for a pleasant afternoon's fun.

Charles was again in a winning vein and headed the list of winning jockeys with Wong a cloże "second.

Mr. Ho Kom Tong's ponies made amends for their disappoint- ing performances at the last Meeting by winning three races in- eluding the Autumn Champions and the St. Andrew's Stakes. At the conclusion of the latter race Mr. D. Templeton (President of 11 St. Andrew's Society) presented to Mr. Ha Kong Tong a beautiful.

silver cup the gift of the Society also a sprig of heather. Mr. Ho returned thanks suitably. It is hoped that the winning of this Cup by Mr. Ho will add another link to the chain of common interests binding the British and the Chinese together,

I was glad to see Lieut.-Colonel Hall Brutton back again as Starter as bis absence was very much felt at the last Meeting.

Mr. C. M., S. Alves was responsible for some excellent finishes.. in the handicap events and the results fully justified his allotment of weights.

al

The Band of the K.O.S.B.'s added materially to a perfect after-- noon's enjoyment and the smooth running of the Meeting must bave satisfied the Officials concerned that their time had been well and truly spent.

Scribes are not allowed to be modest, and I have therefore no .. compunction in mentioning that my Saturday morning's selections I also picked out most contained six winners out of eight races.

of the place winners including Easter Day ($10.80), Green Island ($13.10), Grey Knight (815.50).

THE RACING.

من

The first race was done in fairly good time the winner Grande del Norte making a hot pace from the start with the whole held finishing

in slow time. Total Abstinence was Favourite but was beaten easily, with Shanghai Friend, which is by no means fit, a bad third.

In the second race. Scooter let down his hackers by running in dis- appointing fashion. He is a most unreliable animal. Coming down the straight Dick Lo looked like a winner but Easter Day came with a rush to win with Green Island filling the third position. I am very pleased to see Usber having some success with his stable and
