IRAK OIL "GUSHER.".
WELL- NOT YET STOPPED.
| THREE MEN FATALLY GASSED.
BAGHDAD, October 20th. Up to the present it has been found impossible to stop the flow of oil struck last week by the Turkish Petroleum Co. "five miles south of Kirkuk, and, according to the latest information, no attempt has been made to burn the oil, which is being allowed to escape into the gulleys and depressions surround- ing the workers. There has been no diminution in the pressure of-the oil, and it is estimated that since it was struck some 30,000 tons (equal to about 7,000,000 gallons) have flowed into the surrounding coun try.
Owing to the presence of large quantities of gas most of the em ployeee bare left the working, and are now living at Kirkuk town.
Two American drillers, Arthur Symmons and B, Bollinger, were fatally gassed yesterday, while at tempting to make their way from the town to a bungalow which they had vacated earlier. On entering a depression in which there was a great volume of gas both men were overcome. A plucky attempt at rescue was thereupon made by three Arab coolics, one of whom lost his life. The other two succeeded in getting the two Americans ont of the gas-laden atmosphere, but both men succumbed shortly afterwards.
