C. S. Franklin, Major Gibbs, and
H. G. Robinson (besides Lieut. Col. Comyn, a member of the Hong Kong team, who has already been mentioned),
Proposing the health of the offered his warm congratulations Shanghai team, General Luard
on their victory, and observed that it was a game well won. He went on to give some very delightful re- miniscences, which were much ap preciated.
Replying for Shanghai, Captain Robinson returned thanks for Hong Kong's reception to the team, and spoke of the hospitality which had been extended. He also pro- posed the health of the K.O.S.B.. team, to which Lieut.-Col. Comyn made suitable reply.
The various speeches were of much interest from a polo point of view, and were thoroughly enjoy. ed, all striking the common note of the need of thanks due to Mr. W. L. Stanton for his arduous services as Hon. Secretary.
Mr. Stanton replied in a few well chosen words and referred in very fitting terms to the great services rendered in the matter of hos- pitality to the Shanghai team by Messrs. R. J. and J. J. Paterson during their stay here.
General Laard also alluded to the fact that two Americans were in the Shanghai team, namely, Judge Franklin and Mr. Mishler, both of whom he was glad on behalf of Hong Kong to welcome in their midat.
Judge Franklin replied in a very expressive
speech relieved by various touches of humour that greatly enlivened the proceedings.
It was stated that the Keswick Polo Cup, which has been retained by Shanghai, was presented by Col. Keswick, who is himself an officer of the K.O.S.B.- most interesting eoincidence, in view of the presence at the moment, of the K.O.S.B., in Our midst.
Another interesting fact brought to light was that the Cup was won in 1907 by the 3rd Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment which the stationed in Hong Kong.
