MONGOLIA AS INDEPENDÈNT.
• Marshal Chiang Kai Shek, yesterday morning, left Shanghai for Nagasaki, presumably for the purpose of being married to Miss Mei Ling Seong, sister of Mr. T. V. Soong, formerly Kuomintang Finance Minister, and who for a considerable time appeared to be, politically, very much at variance with Marshal Chiang. Mr. Soong and his sister are at present staying at Unurn, Nagasaki.

The news that the Soviet now regards Mongolia as indépen- gent of China and has, in consequence, "appointed an Ambassador -(not a mere Minister 1)-to Urgn to represent Moscow with regard to Mongolia, should cause more than the Peking nutho- rities furiously to think." The news has been communicated to Peking, presumably to Dictator Chang Tso Lin's Cabinet, and it will be interesting to note what steps are taken with regard to this high-handed action. But it is doubtful whether a proteal, united or otherwise, from Peking, Nanking, Hankow or any other of the so-called seats of Government of distracted China will have the slightest effect in urbing the Soviet's audacity.

HOW THE KINEMA CAN HELP.
"In the last five years little nd- vance has been made in regard to preventing an enthrank of fire after an aeroplane accident. There are rertain difficulties in the way, but kinematograph films of expérimen tal crashes may help."
Thus is summed up one of the most interesting features of a Blue book which gives the report of the Aeronautical Research Committee for the year 1926-27.
"In 1999 the Committee. of which Sir Richard Glazebrook is chairman, published a reperton the subject. The general position as regards fire prevention has ret ratly changed since that date and progress is difficult owing to the lack of exact knowledge as to the petrol vapour set free on a crash," says the report.
