Chief interest centres in the B" Division anal between the Chinese Recreation Club and the Club de Recreio, which has been fixed for Saturday on the Honglows:- Kong Cricket Club courts.. Much has been said of the match and it only remains to be seen which team will emergé victorious. Both teams have practised assiduously and are leaving nothing to chance,

Chinese WAS totally

On form and reputation, the Chinese Recreation Club appear the superior. Their performances throughout the season show a better record and in only two matches out of the eleven did they give away more games than the Recreio to the same opponents. These were South Chinese 46 games and United Ser. vices & games, as against 44 and 62 of the Recreio, but it must be remembered that the United Ser- vices Recreation Club team that beat the different to that which los: to the Club de Recreio carlier in the season. The Chinese players are by far the more experienced and seasoned and their three pairs are very well balanced.

***

The Chinese will, unfortunately, be without the services of Lau Man Ching who has been laid up with dysentry. He is not expected to be fit for-tennis for another three or four weeks. His absence will naturally break up one of the re- gular partnerships and this may make a great deal of difference. In Tak Cheuk and Lou Man Ching have partnered in all the League matches and combine very well. I am in formed that Chin Chung Chia will probably fill the vacancy.

The Club de Recreio, have prae- tised with a praiseworthy deter mination. Last Saturday they play ed the M.B.K. "A" toam in a friendly match It was the strong est side the Japanese could select and included Honda and Akiyama, who reached the final in the last Open Doubles Championship of the Colony. The Portuguese were not expected to win, but they showed up very well losing by 56 games to 43. The result was a difference of 13 games, but they only tell short of the average by 7 games which was certainly a good performance against a very strong team..

The Lawn Tennis Championships at Wimbledon have revealed that English players who young enough to improve have done better this year than in' pre- vious years. Their matches with the foreign stars have been closer, proving that the gap be tween the standard of English play and that of the best foreigners is narrowing.

16

For example, E. Higgs ran J. Borotra to a five-set match; at one. stage the Englishman led by two sets to one. C. H. Kingsley won the Arst ect from J. Brugcon, in which he played delightful laws tennis J. C. Gregory, that vigor. ous young Yorkshireman, lost to F. T. Hunter, of America, after a lead of 3 games to 1 in the final set. It was Gregory's impetuosity rather than Hunter's play that lost him the match.

Sutcliffe and E. Tyldesley were the leading performers.

Surrey, thanks to centuries by Sandham and Robbe, ran up the huge score of 59 for 3 wickets, a total which Notts got nowhere near. This set-back is serious for their championship prospects.

New Zealand scored a creditable victory over Glamorgan, Dempster making the biggest more of this series of matches, and Bernau taking 6 wickets for 33. Derby beat Warwick. Appeal to Military Authorities.

This is a simple solution of the present state of affairs, and in ad- dition would prevent the Olub motor road, footpath and entrances from continuing to be made use of as open air latrines, to the great discomfort of Club members and their wives, to avoid a possible incident, and to create a feeling of goodwill all around instead of building up constant animosity as is being done now, it is hoped that the authorities will not delay
