YESTERDAY'S FREIGHT ·

RETURNS.

IMPROVEMENT IN HONG KONG CARGO.

BUT THROUGH FREIGHTS LOW.

The shipping returns for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m., yesterday showed an improvement us regards Hong Kong freight, compared with the particularly low figures of the previous day. Through freights,

however, recorded a drop. There was one more arrival than on the

previous day, and all but one vessel brought freight for this port.

Of the cargo imported into Hong Kong four British vessels accounted for 4,207 tons out of a total entry og 6,575 tons. The two beat returns were 1,984 fons and 1,100 tons, both general. Of the remaining 2,208 tons for this Calony, ono ship brought 1,100 tons.

Through freights, totalling 8,718 tons, were carried in two vessels only, the British 8.8. Kashgar hav- ing 3,50 tons on board, and the American 9.4. West Nomentum carrying 5,108 tons.

The total number of vessels in port was 66, of which British vessels numbered. 28.

Ming Sang (British) from Haiphong, 1,051 tons general cargo for Hong Kong. S.S. Kashgar (British) from Sin- gapore, 813 long general cargo for Hong Kong and 3,250 tuns, for other ports. S.S. Wext Nomentum (America), from Manila, 98 tons of hemp for Hong Kong and 5,168 tous hemp and general cargo for other parts,

Deck Passengers. Asiatic Deck passengers entering the Colony for the 24 hours ended at. O am yesterday numbered 452. The biggets returns by individuál ships came to 232 and 115.

During dense fog on June 2nd a collision occurred off Dungeness be- tween the Troilus, bound for Lon The harbour yesterday bore almost don, and the Eurymedon, outward a deserted appearanes as regards bound, both belonging to Mesurs. mercantile shipping. Marine Court.

At the Marine Court yesterday morning, before Lieut. Comdr. G.

Hale, R.N., the mistress of lighter was fined $10 for anchoring in the Cable Reserve.

The anaster of a trading junk pleaded guilty to not exhibiting re- gulation. "lights, and was fined $15, two weeks' imprisonment in de

fault.

For a similar offence, the master of a fishing boat was fined 810, or Len days hard labour.

Record Voyage.

Eurymedon was damaged amid- ships. Both vesscle proceeded to Dover under their own power..

A motor-lifeboat of a new type, and with a new type of engine, which the Royal National Lifeboat Institution has built for Rosslare Harbour Co., Wexford, in Ireland, has completed her trials at Cowes. She is of the Watson type, with cabin, 45ft. diu. by 12ft. Gin., and July 5th.... has twin screws, and is fitted with wireless. During her trials the hout ran for two hours at her full speed of 1,200 revolutions & minute, with her engine-room flooded, and next day, after the water had been pumped out, but with nothing whatever done to her engines, did eight hours at full speed in a heavy gule.

The Koyasan Maru, built for the Mitsui Bussan Kaisha at their own yard, has been completed. She is a vessel 275 ft. in length, with a beam of 40 ft. 7 ins, and a depth of 21 ft., the gross tonnage being 2,030. The dead-weight capacity is in the neighbourhood of 1,500 A 1,280 i.h.p. Burmeister and Wain installed, having six engine ie cylinders 500 m.n. bore with pisten stroke of 900 mm.
