BRITISH STEAMERS BEST CONTRIBUTORS.

There was a considerable decrease in through freights during the 24 bours ended it û am yesterday and local imports were no better. Of the ten arrivals during "the period, six were British and con- sequently most of the cargoes both for the Colony and for ports be yond" were on British veasels.

The imports of general merchan- dise into Hong Kong amounted to 5,903 tons. Of these,,3,443 toms were discharged from six British steamers. A shipment of 4,000 tons of timber was also landed here. These were brought by the s. Mau Sang, From Sandakar.

After Part Of "Tilebost," The bisecting of the B. Tjilebart, stranded at Linging Island since April 5th, was successfully finished yesterday. The fore part of the vessel is still on the rocks, and it will be left there there for the time being. The stern part, was towed back to Hong Kong late last night. Mr. Q. Van Ufford, of the Java- Ching-Japan Lijn went to the scene of the wreck yesterday morning, and on his return reported that dynamite played a part in the severance of the Tilleboet.

The rescued half of the stranded Taikoo Dock vessel will go to pending a decision as to her repair. P. and O. Mail Steamer.
