CHINESE PAIR ENTERS SEMI-FINAL.
YESTERDAY'S TOURNAMENT
RESULTS.
Yesterday, Yew Man Tsun anď Yew Man Kit, the only Chinese pair left in the H.K.C.C. tournament, met and defeated F. A. Redmond and Dr, R. E. Tottenham in the fourth round of the Open Doubles Championship of the Colday by three sets to two. The match was played on the Stand Court and at- tracted a good number of spectators who saw an interesting struggle lasting over two hours.
Play often reached a high stand- ard in the first two sets, which were
the best of the match. Both pairs showed up very well and there were many long rallies. Eich pair won a get after a prolonged struggle. Redmond and Tottenham proved a very formidable combination in the third set, which they won by bril lant play and they looked as they were on the way to win the match, but the scales turned again in favour of the Chinese pair who deservedly won the fourth set. The final set was played in fast failing Hight. Redmond and Tottenham made a great effort to save the match when they brought the scores level after being 4-1 down, But the Chinese pair stood the test well and ended the match winning the ninth and tenth games. The winners now meet T. Honda, and H. Akiyama in the semi-final.
"Yew Man Kit certainly gave the best all round performance of the four. He played with great confc- ence and was especially skilful in his overhead work, killing constant- ly throughout the five sets. "Yew Man Taun was rather eclipsed by his partner and protege, but played a steady and brainy game through
out.
Tottenham put in many sweeping forehand drives and smashed with great accuracy, Redmond played very well at times and was respon sible for many pretty shots, His service troubled the Chinese a great deal And gave Tottenham many opportunities to smash. They show ed good combination and with a little luck would have won the match.

A. Correction.
In our issue of yesterday, it was wrongly represented that Colonel Russell Brown beat G. W. Sewell in the Club Singles on Monday, Sewell in fact won the match by the same scores, 4-6, 0-8, 7-5, 8-0, 7-5. The mistake was made because our correspondent placed the wrong name on the winners' list.

TAXI-CAB AFIRE.
COMPLETELY BURNT OUT,
www.
A taxi-cab was completely burnt- out yesterday just before the tilin hour. Fire broke out while the cab was descending Garden Road, just below Kennedy Road. There were no passengers and the driver escap- ed, without injury,
The fire was stated to have been caused by an overdow of petrol. which dripped down the sides of the crank case, into the oil pan. When the driver saw flames, he immediately applied his brakes, but. before he could clamber down, the whole vehicle was a mass of flames.
One appliance promptly came to the scene and soon extinguished the fire but the ear was a charged wreck. The back part of the roof was completely gone, flooring burnt, and glasses were broken.
