ROUGH PLAY,
A GROWING FOOTBALL EVIL.
SOME UNRULY SPECTATORS.
[By JACK BOYEE, Football's Foungest Director.]
The regrettable series of incidents both In Langue and Cup-tie football which have occurred recently have been viewed with grave concern by the governing bodies. Followers of the game can take it for granted that the Football Association will take steps effectually to stamp out this unpleasant state of affairs.

Many leading writers have re- cently condemned the action of a number of our officials in charge, whose method is to call all the players together when a game has the appearance of degenerating into a rough house " and deliver a serious lecture which finishes with the warning that the first maa de liberately to offend after the cau- tion will leave the field.
Referee's Trying Position,
The position of referee is a very trying one under these conditions for it is argued that by calling all the players together the referee is Cautioning some members who may be innocent.
Each Saturday we have learned of players being ordered off the field, and in many cases famous names are involved. Scotland, too, has had her share of unsatisfactory incidents on the field, culminating in the case where a famous goal. keeper and a great scoring centre forward were given marching or
ders in the same match.
The spirit of the Cup always calls for that little bit of extra effort, but there is no earthly reason why the play should not be carried out in a healthy, clean manner.
The Man, not the Ball.
I was present at an Amateur Professional tie match the other week where some of the players were deliberately playing the man and not the ball. The result was that a gune which had started in a nost refreshing manner deterior ated in the closing stages or ac count of the tactics to which some of the players atooped.
If you take the careers of our great international players you will End that those are the men whose records are irreproachable, men who have got there by their fair yet frm methods.
The Football Association, too, will never consider the claims of a player for the highest honours unless he plays the game in the true sense of the word,
There is the case to-day of a ver- tain player who would walk into the all-England side if it were not for his ovensional lapses of bad temper.
To return to the unthinking and Bonetimes unruly spectator, Let us hope it is merely that his red hot partisanship carries him away to such an extent that he forgets himself rather than that he is a poor sportsman.
The fact remains, however, that the behaviour of the crowds at sonte
phreys were disappointed yesterday when all the matches had to be postponed owing to the rain. The Fincher combination is one of the beat in the tournament and they have not as "yet appeared in any match together on account of the unsettled state of the weather, only three matches have been arranged for to-day, viz. :
Open Singles.
C. O. Stark 1. Capt. E. W Morris (2nd round).

BANNED BY MAYOR OF COLOMBO.
The Mayor of Colombo banned the exhibition of the film The Light of Asia," which a local cinema company had arranged to show.
In 'n statement Mr. H. E. Newar ham said:
I have taken this step simply in deference to the protest of cer tain of the Buddhists, some of whom appear to object to the film, while others do not seem to mind whether it is exhibited.
"It is true the Buddhists are only a section of the community." he added, but I felt it best not to take the risk of outraging the religious feelings of any section of
there is a general objection among Buddhists I shall continue to pro- hibit the showing of the film in public."
Mr. Prabhu Dayal, representa- tive of the Great Eastern Corpora tion, Ltd., Delhi, which is the pro- ducer of the film entitled "Light of Asin," writes: "I feel it my duty to correct a statement appear- ing in a morning paper that the above-mentioned film was banned in Burms. This is untrue.
I take this opportunity of saying that in all countries where it was screened it received admiration, and, fur- ther, that it was received with en- thusiastic appreciation."
A HEALTHY MAN'S DIET.
BRADFORD DOCTOR ON HOW
TO KEEP FIT.
Dr. V T. Thorem, assistant Medical Officer of Health for Brud- ford, addressing the members of the Bradford and District Trades and Labour Council on Nutritic and Diet in Relation to Physical dit "Dess," advocated as the daily diet' for a healthy working man ib. of bread, lb. of meat, ib. of fat, 1lb. of potatoes, ipt. of milk, 1lb. of egg, and lb. of cheese. Green vegetables or tomatoes should be included in the diet.
Touching on the need for taking care of the teeth, he said a surgeon once told him he never knew of a case of cancer of the mouth or tongue where the teeth were clean, healthy, and whole.
