YESTERDAY'S FREIGHT

RETURNS.

HEAVY LOCAL AND THROUGH CARGOES. ·

BRITISH ENTRIES GOOD.

The total amount of freights im ported into the Colony and carried for ports beyond Hong Keng dur- ing the 24 hours ended at 5 am. yesterday was heavy. Almost 10% of the general merchandise was carried in British bottoms.

There were 90,339 tons of cargo entering the port yesterday. Of these only 7,323 tons were general merchandise. There were, in ad- dition, 8.112 tons of kerosene, 719 tons of flour, 3 tons of lumber, 3,347 tons of rice, 360 tons of live stock and 180 tons of beans and hean oil.

Of the 1,323 tons of general mer- chandise 4,311 tons were discharged from four British steamers. The best return was 2,051 tons carried by the s.8. Teen (British) fron Haiphong and Hoihow.

Through freights were also heavy there being a total of 20,858 tons manifested. Of these, 18,681 tons were general merchandise carried on eight vessels out of the nineteen arrivais. Four British steamers accounted for 7,610 tons. There were also shipments of 2,200, tons of coal and 1,973 tons of beans and bean.

The two best returns were 3,063. tons and 4,040 tona. The former were carried by the s.s. Auxta Maru (Japanese) from Middlesbrough and Singapore, and the latter wer on the manifest of the British steamer Adrastus, from Yokohama and Shanghai.

The La Crescenta (British) arriving here yesterday from Balk Papao brought 8,112 tons of kerc sene for local discharge.

One of the $73 women deck passen- gurs on the Dutch ss. Fan Heate gave birth to a daughter during the ship's voyage here from Delhi in the East Indies.

The local office of the Nippon Yusen Kaisha has been informed that the strike of cooks on the com- pany's vessels is now over and thre the boats concerned have sailed 4gain.
