YESTERDAY'S FREIGHT

RETURNS.

LOCAL IMPORTS DOWN,

THROUGH CARGOES FAIR.

The returns made to the Harbour Office during the 24 hours ended st am. yesterday showed that the imports, of general merchandis into the Colony were below normal and that freight carried to ports beyond Hong Kong was fair.

The Colony's imports amounted to 8,711 tons, of which, 2,850 tona were unloaded from British steam ers. The best return was shown by the 5. Ninghai (British) which brought 2,300 tons from Saigon.

Through cargoes amounted to 17,083 tons, of which, 3,170 tons were manifested on British steamers The 58. Kame Mary arriving here from London carried 8,042 tons and tho British steamer Demodorus from Yokohams and Shanghai car ried 1,980 tona

During the period under revicw there were 16 arrivals and 21 de partarea. Their nationalities were: British, arrivals and 4 depar- tures; Japanese, B arrivals and s arrivals departures; Norwegian,

and 2 departures; Chinese, 1 ar rival and 4 departures; Danish, i arrival; Dutch, 1 arrival; French Larrival and 1 departure; Ameri cap, 1 arrival and 2 departures.

The total number of vessels in port was 74, of which, 27 were British.

SHIPPING NOTES.

The total number of deck passen!- gera entering into the Colony dur- ing the 24 Ecurs ended at 9 a.m. yesterday was 2,119.

The a.. Mishima Mare on a voyage from Yokohama to Australia came into port yesterday, and amongst her passengers list of over 200, twenty-five disembarked here.

The N.Y.K. Kamo Maru arriving yesterday from London brought so The passengers for Hong Kong. liner carried 100 through pameu- gers.

The Empress of deia, which left Woosung at I p.m. yesterday, is due bere to-morrow.

Word has been received by the Sui Tong shop, at No. 209, Wing Lok Street, that a junk dispatched by the firm to Macao has been seized by the Macao police, with A cargo of rice and bran, which is valued at $8,000. The master of the boat is stated to have abscond- ed. "The reason for the seizure is not disclosd,
