CRICKET NOTES.

It was I think Andrew Lang who remarked that, there is 'ng talk that is so good sa cricket talk, when memory sharpens memory, and the öld revive 5 days of burnt-out Junes |

This may be possible in England, but I think most of my cricket recollections that cling most poignantly in may recollection are of days of ice-bound January. The weather, though propitious in, so

· far that it did not make it impos sible to play, was uncommonly un- pleasant last Saturday beastly cold sand as soon as what purported to "be the son was down, uncommonly raw. Nor at the moment of weik ing does it seem likely to be any week-end, during this though the weather is a Little brighter.

WOTICE!

* To-morrow's Games, The Fit Division have an after- noon off from from League games, while the Hong Kong Cricket Club play the Combined League. The team of the Club was published yes. terday morning and. I have heard some surprise expressed that Morris, Beatty and Sturgess should have been selected for the Club when they were eligible for the Combined League team. I learn, however, that they were only picked by the Club after it had been ascertained that they had not been included in the other side. Morris, when the Selection Committee of the Coinbin- ed. Side discussed things was not expected to be available or be must have been picked. I confess to a certain” amount of surprise that Beatty was not picked, as he has been bowling uncommonly well for the last month. The team na ac tually selected is as follows:-G. B Sayer (capt.), F. J. Ling, E C. Fincher, F. F. Fincher, F. Goodwin, A. W. Ramany, A. «A. Rumjahn, T. E: Yeah, A. S. Ismail, Capt. Bridg- land and W. Brace.

I must admit that one selection rather surprises me E. F. Fincher, of Kowloon, is a useful cricketer, but I certainly don't think he is as usual as a good many players who are omitted. A. H. Madar for instance is useful with, both bat" and ball, while A. E. Wood is one of the fastest scorers in the Colony. There is another L.B.Q, man, whöse name, escapes me,

who might have had claims, as possibly might Beker, though he is rather an un- certain quantity. I have quoted the team as originally selected," and have no information as to whether the players named can turn out.

Second Division Matches. There is also a small Exture list for the Second Division ag only two matches art down for decision. The Tiniversity play the Club de Recreio on the University ground, and s close game should result Were the game anywhere else I should expect to see the Recreio win, but one never can be sure of the way in which that matting patch will take people.

The Tamar is down in the card as at home to LB.C. I suspect that this is a mistake but have no pre- cise information. Anyway it will be a very fine piece of work if the Sailors avoid defeat. li

Last Week's Games,

The outstanding event of the games played on Saturday last was the defeat of the Navy by the Kow- loon Cricket Club. I have alwaysa considered them a good side but confess that i was astonished at the way the Navy batting "Conked out at the end. Once again hard hitting upset the Navy bowlers, as it did when the Gunners played them, only in this case the runs were obtained speedily and con tinuously. The Navy Dover looked like getting them, indeed they had not too much time, but the final bit of bad luck was waen Cantrell played on to an off break from Ross which pitched only half way down the pitch. A grim business! Brewerton felled to start with, nor did Agnew, |-- who has just returned to the Station

BATTING AND BOWLING AVERAGES.

There were only two matches played in each division last week and as a consequence there are very few changes in this week's averages.........

The batting list in the first division is still bonded by Lt. Hankey who has played in two matches A. W. Hayward (HE.CC), the second player to reach two hundred runs this season, has the highest aggregate, his fatal of £31 runs being better than Rumjahn's by 22 Funa...

Two Craigengover players drop off, and athers from the Kowloon and Hong Kong Cricket Clubs appear for the first .time.

In the second division the Recreio and Police who won their respective matches last week appear prominently in both the batting and bowling averages.
