Out of the thirteen arrivals, only fire steamers had general mer chandise for local discharge. The total amount of general cargo im-President Pierce, dus lc-day. 'ported was,4,544 tons, of which, 988 Tanda, due February 7th. tons were on two British steamers In addition, to general merchandise, there was a shipment of 1,700 tons of rice and rice meal which was brought by the Chinese steamer Fun Feng from Saigon.

Through freights were manifested on ateamers, amounting to 8,200 tons Two British steamers con. tributed 1,350 tons. The heaviest return was on the s.s. President Jackson, which brought 4,000 tons from Shanghai.

The arrivals and departures dur- ing the period under review were: British, & arrivals and 3, depar-}; tures; Japanese, 1 arrival and 4.

The China Navigation steamer Tean left Hong Kong at "acon on Wednesday bound for Hoihow, with 400 tons at general” Cargo, but, wher off Lamma Taland, engine and boiler trouble was experienced. For three hours the steamer re- mained anchored off the Island, at the end of which repair work was effected sufficiently to enable her to return under her own steam to Hong Kong. She now lies: of Tai- koo Dock awaiting a more thorough overhaul.
