During the 24 hours ended at S

Saturday, there were 9,15 tons of general merchandise im ported for Hong Kong, of which, 1,137 tons were discharged from É British steamers. The best return was shown by the 3.5. President- J'adiana, which Arrived from Seattle and Shanghai with 9,431 tons of cargo were manifested two ateamers out of the 8 arrivals.

Out of the 8.000 tons destined for ports beyond Hong Kong, 4,500 tons were on the President Madison,

NEW FREIGHT STEAMSHIP.

The new rossel Emperor of Port Ficoll left Montreat on November 19th on her first voyage under the Canadian Pacific houseflag. She carried a load of hay to New found- land and then took on a load of steel at Sydney for Vancouver, vi the Panama Canal, where she is expected about the end of the year. Her deadweight carrying capacity is about 3,400 tons and registered tonnage 2,089.

She is 51.3 feet long by 419 fect beam and 20.3 feet depth and is propelled by triple expansion engines. Since she was acquired by the Company a 'tween decks has Seen built in the" forward hold for the better bandling of mixed cargo. She has been thoroughly re-candi- tioned and brought up to Lloyd's classification.

The new ship, which will be named Nattle, will assist in traffic on the British Columbia coping with the ever increasing Coast and to and from Alaska.
