THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE ANNUAL OVERHAUL.

HULLS TO BE PAINTED WHITE.

به گریه

As is customary at this period of the year the annual docking programme for the overhaul of the Empress liners engaged on the trans-Pacific run will shortly be commencing.

The Empress of Asia, which sailed for. Manila, yesterday evening will be the first of the three liners to go into dock here. This she will do upon ber returs from the Philippines. She will again for Vancouver on January 6th. The next liner will be the Empresa of Canada, which is due here on Christmas Eve and to leave for. Manila on Christ- mas Day, going into dock upon her re- turn to Hong Kong. She will rejoin the Vancouver ran on January 26th. The Empress of Russia will later follow her into dock, and will resume the run on February 18th

While in dock all the ligers will under go thorough overhaul and when they emerge again, they will not be easily re- cognizable as the Empress ships we know here. Their halls will be paint ed white, in place of the dark colour at present used, and with the white upper decks they will present a very smart appearance. This reversion, to the pre-war appearance of these shipa Dir- ing the War they were taken over by the Government, and it was then that they were toned down in colour to meet the exigencies of the time.

Mr H Burgess, Captain Superin tendent of the O.P.R. and C.P.O. at Vanconfer, has arrived here in connection" with these overhauls.

COUGHS, COLDS, BREATHING DIFFICULTY, CHEST WEAKNESS,

BRONCHITIS

F all chest ailments bronchitis is the most prevalent and cer- tainly the most persist- ent. It is really an inflammation of the “bronchials." These tubes.

are like the branches and twigs of a tree and lead from the windpipe to every part of the lungs. when,

through chill,

breathing foul air, or other adverse influences, irritation " or inflammation is set up in the bronchials, the matural secretion of mucus is enor- mously increased and this causes the persistent cough which is Nature's effort to free the air-passages of obstructions.

It is little use swallowing druggy mixtures into your stomach. In all deep-seated. coughs and colds Peps are the urgent need. This great breatheable remedy, bathing the sore bronchial tubes with rich healing pine fumes, loosens phlegm, allaya_the_ cough, heals the scre irritated membranes, and subdues any inflammation that may be present.

No matter whether your bronchitis, bronchial asthma or cough be of recent origin of aggravated by years of neglect, you cannot afford to overlook the benefits which Peps alone give. It virtually means bringing the comfort- ing, chest-strengthening breath of Alpine pine forests to your bedside.

It is a wise protective policy to take Feps regularly throughout the cold-season.

Peps are by far the safest and best remedy ever dis- covered for coughs, colda, chills, sore throats, laryngitis, bronchitis, asthma, and other chest and lung perils that threaten in our climate.

CHILD SUFFERERS from bronchitis, wheeziness, difficult breathing, craupy cough or throat trouble, should be given a few Peps

tablets, to suck regularly every day Youngsters fize the taste of Peps and take them with the utmost benefit, whereas nauseous druggy cough-mixtures · upset and weaken their delicate stomachs. -
