There was also an interest ing exhibition game of lawn bowls play ed during the afternoon, arranged by Messra, G. R. Edwards and W. S. Dixon. Spoons, in connection with this game, were presented by Mr. Edwards.

The rowing was of an excellent stand- Ard. The pairs (3 mile) was most keenly contested, and provided a most exciting finish. The fours made an excellent start in good water. Though Mr. Dreyer's boat got ahead a quarter of a mile after the start, and had a comfortable win, the opposing craft made several spurts which provided much to interess the spectators.

Commodore's Address.

An excellent tea was served on the lawns and at the end of the afternoon's programme Mr. EW: Carpenter (Com modore) addressed the gathering as follows:-On behalf of the members of the Royal Hongkong Yacht Club it is again my privilege to welcome you to our opening cruise for the current year. I am glad to say that the season has opened very auspiciously in the way of breezes for the Championship races, the boats on each ocension finishing well within the time limit allowed..

He would like to emphasise one point, namely, that they were short of lady sailors and be hoped that some of the ladies who had participated in the afternoon's events would do their best to persuade some of their friends to participate in future. events.
