ARMY'S FUTURE IN JAPAN BRIGHT.
With regard to the visit of General Bramwell Booth, the Head of the Salva- tion Army, to Japan, in connection with his tour of the Drieat, previously men tioned in these colunin's, the North-Chime" Daily News has the following article from their Tokyo correspondent, written under, date October 20th:-
From the moment he stepped ashore in Japan, General Bramwell Booth has been the recipient of unique demonstra tions of welcome and honour from all communities of the Japanese people. The Japanese are essentially hero-wor shippers, and to them General Bocth, who. is visiting this country for the first time, is like a noble figure of the past rein- carnated on earth again
DARING BANK RAID IN LIVERPOOL."

EXCITING. STREET CHASE.

Four men-a bank cashier, a policeman, and two civiliana-were shot at and seriously wounded during a bank raid and the subsequent chase of the alleged robber through the streets of Liverpool on October 13th. The injured were re- moved to hospital, and so serious was their condition that their depositions had been taken. They were:--
Walter Tooby, 20, bank cashier, Hampstead-road, Fairfield, shot in the
body.
Pe. Clarke, shot in felt breast. John Stevenson, 30, of Wellington street, Liverpool, shot in the head,
Robert Henry Vipond, 57. Northum berland-terrace, Everton, shot in left breast.
William McAllister, aged 20, a native of Liverpool, who, however, had recently arrived in the city from the South of Ireland, has been arrested in connection with the affair.

Cashier's Shout for Help.
Newspapers, in editorial encomiums of praise, opened their arms, figuratively speaking, to the Chief of the Salvation Army, and the most noteworthy of the editorial tributes came from the pen of Mr. Takutomi, the proprietor and editor of the Kokumin Shimbun, which although
The starting point of the succession of at times rabidly nationalistic, yet saw la General Bouth a true hero, one whose exciting scenes was the district bank in organization trains emissaries to take Great Hamer-street, and the time between with them draughts of both physical and 10.30 am and eleven. A young man spiritual refreshment to the thirsty and entered-just as the cashier was counting the tired along the dusty highways offer on the counter, and it is alleged, life,
drew a revolver and shouted hands
One undoubted reason for the warmth of Japanese feeling towards General Booth and his organization was the brave and unflinching manner in which the Salvation Army set to work to succour the needy during the dread days of the 1623 earthquake. That and the realize tion of the valuable social service work the Salvation Army is doing day in and day out, for the Japanese people bave touched responsive chords in the hearta of many here who, though not of the Christian faith, yet see in the Army noble effort to live up to the standards of the Master.
