SPORTS.

K.O.S.B, OFFICERS AT FESTIVE FUNCTION

In the afterncon they held their 2nd annual inter-platoon sports at Happy Valley for the "Kee Cheong " CUD (kindly presented by Mr. R. Shewan last year), and "in the evening an enjoyable and successful sporting event was merrily wound-up with a no less successful festive celebration, of Hallow'een, the occasion being the Halloween dinner and concert

The dinner was held at the Volunteer headquarters, the drill, hall heing very attractively decorated for the occasion with national" flags and the colours of the St. Andrew's ensign interwoven with evergreen around the walls and on the ceiling. A stage, at one end of the ball, was arranged to depict that interior of an old Scottish kitchen, complete with fireplder, “swee and tattle" pot, whilst on the rantle piece was an old fashioned tea caddy. The tables were decorated with flowers, etc., but the principal decoration was beather, a special con signment of which was sent out from Home for the occasion. Neep lanterns provided illumination in the old style,

THE LASSIES.

The Rev. Kirk Maconachis said :-We all know that it is a festival taken over by the Church. It was known long ago as Hallow Mass; in fact, it was known by the Druids. I do not think that it 'was known by the Chinese; at least I have not heard of it. (Laughter.) It is'a night when ghosts are expected to be seen, and naturally, and properly, it is associated with All Souls.

Welcome to the "Kasbies." Captain Logan, in the course of an interesting speech, said that he was proud to have the honour of welcoming the officers of the King's Own Scottish Hardereri It is," said Captain Logan,

the proudest moment of my life. Be- cently, I listened to a sermon on pride, but I am proud. I had no doubt of that fact five minutes after I had the privilege of welcoming Col. Comyn and his officers to Hongkong.

Proceeding, Capt. Logan said that this' was the second dinner, held under the nuspices of the Scottish Company, H.K.V.D.C., and that a great deal of its success was due to the fact that they had a Scottish Regiment with them in the Colony. The Scottish Company felt it a great honour that they had been able to welcome the new regiment last week: they were still more honoured by the fact that they had had the first opportunity of wel- coming them at a regimential dinner: The regiment that had left had left be bind it a jolly good record, but be felt confident that the Borderers would even better that record. He wanted to thank all who had worked so hard for the Ramsay and Duncan. Mr. Ramsay had success of the evening, especially Mesara. looked after the wines, and Mr. Duncan waa responsible for the effective decora- tions. Capt. Logan thanked the donors of prizes at the sports, and added that he would never have been able to have had the pipe band and full band of the KOS.B.'s at the sports but for Mr. Dyer.

In conclusion, Capt. Logan. paid a glowing tribute to the many Scottish ladice, who had done so much towards the success of the evening.

Musketry Prizes.

Capt. Logan. then presented the prizes for musketry and efficiency. These were

Despite counter attractions, such as the Fanling Hunt Steeplechase at Kwanti, the interport tennis at the C.B.C., foot ball and cricket, etc., there was a very good attendance at the 2nd annual Inter- Platoon Sports of the Scottish Company at Happy Valley. The sports took place on the Hongkong Football Club's ground. All the events were very keenly contested, proved most interesting, and thoroughly enjoyed.
