The 1st Battalion of the East Surrey Regiment had now left and it was with regret that their departure was recorded. The Regiment had always given the Association its cordial support and the men of the "Regiment, provided many of the contests which took place under the auspices of the Association-contests which had felly maintained the sporting reputation of the Battalion. In particu lar he would like to refer to the support received from their Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Montague-Bates, who apart from his interest in his own battalion had been a great asset to the Committee and as as official at the various tournaments. They would all join with him in wishing them every success on their new station.
