THE
The . Selangor, which was in colli- sion with the Menang at the mouth of the Perak River recently, has been docked at Singapore. She has a large hole in her stern starboard quarter just above the water-line and fitters have been at work removing the torn plates.
The Norwegian steamer Scale, which left Singapore last Tuesday for Hong- kong returned to Singapore on Wednes day morning last owing to engine trouble.
The steamer Baikul, the last of Admiral Starck's refugee feet from Vladivostok, which put into Olongapo four years ago, was towed to Manila on October 1st the steamship Paz, states the Manila Times. The Baikal has just been acquired by Madrigal and Company. She has a gross tonnage of 500 tons. The Baikal was especially built in Shanghai as an ice breaker for the Russian navy. She is said to be the fastest ship of her size to be operated in the interisland service, She has a powerful engine with a speed of 14 knots While the vessel is in good condition, minor repairs and general overhauling will be necessary to St her for interisland trade.
At..the Marine Court, yesterday, before Lieut. Commander G. F. Hole, B.N., the master of a fishing boat was fined 25, or five days" hard labour, in default, for using drags in the Harbour without permission. A boatmistress was also fo ed 83. for mooring outside of five others alongside the s.3. Hông Shek Kung.
The total number of deck passengers entered for the twenty-four hours ended at 0 a.m. yesterday was 627, of which the s.s. Hydrangea (British). from Kwang Chow Wan carried 377, and the 5.9. Hain Fung (Chinese) from Shanghai 903.
The 3.3. Hin Fung, of the China Mer- chants' Company-the vessel which was pirated recently. left Hongkong yester- day at noon for Northern ports, after
re-coaling and taking on fresh water on Tuesday evening and yesterday morn- ingAll the coal and water had been used up through the pirates bringing the vesel to Bins Bay. The Hsin. Fung had enly enough fuel and water to take her from Shanghai to her original destina-
tion.
