(Laughter.)

Dr. Severn pointed out that the de- fendant supplies the Chinese shops with this vinegar, and they sell it in bottles.

Their lawn bowls teams had a new lease of life, the ground was getting into good order, and they were hopeful of having as good a green as any other Club in the Colony,

Out standing subscriptions showed a higher gure than was the case last year. They had, however, a sum of about $2,200 to pay a deht of $1,500.

It is now nearly six months since the meeting in which we appointed this Committee to go into the affairs of the Company together with the Consulting Committee, and as they had the benefit of the preliminary investigation prior to their appointment, I cannot help but think that by this time some information might have been given to the shareholders as to the result of this investigation.

In six months surely something de finite should have been arrived at by the two Committees. acting conjointly, and it is difficult to understand why it is continually necessary to have these meet- inge postponed.

"Waste of Time and Money."

Although the greater part of the stock, was destroyed or otherwise damaged by

water, the timely arrival of the Brigade and their quick work saved some por tions of the fittings and confined the fire to the ground floor. There being ro staircase inside the building, the fire did not spread to the two upper floort, which were practically untouched.

The contents of the shop were insured with the Heung On and the Sincere In- surance Companies, in the case of the former to the extent of $600, and in the latter, in an amount of $500.

[TO THE EDITOR OF THE "HONGKONG DAILY PRESS."]

Mr. L. R. Andrewes, who appeared for the defendant, referred to the case as

one in which a contractor was cursed at by his client's people."

On the ground that the contractor was well paid to carry out the work properly. it was suggested at the previous hear- ing that he should be held responsible. It was also stated that the people looking after the interests of the owner who was away in Canton "had properly cursed the contractor for his negligence."
