Despite the fact that six fewer vessels arrived than on the previous day, and there followed a decreased tonnage, freight showed a much smallar decrease than would be expected. As a matter of fnet, Hongkong cargo had marcely drop ped at all below the figures of the pre- vious return; while freight for ports beyond only went down by over two tousand tons. A feature of the returns was a big entry of sugar by a Belgian steamer, the first vessel of this nationality to arrive in port for many months past.

The repairs to the Shipping Board steamer, Feat Faralon, which is of the America Far East Line, and which went ashore on a reef off Vrias. Island at the entrance to Tokyo Bay on July 28th, being floated off three days later after lightering of cargo, are now nearly com- plated. The local manager of the U.S. Shipping Board, Mr. R. C. Johnson, is at present at Yokohama in connection with the repairs of the steamer, which are being carried out there

Because of the necessity of salvage operations and the lightering of the cargo, & general average was declared on the vessel by San Francisco Board of Marine Underwriters and a loçal firm; was appointed as adjuster. The cargo of the Wear Faralon totalled 7,000 tons, coming mainly from San Francisco and Los Angeles, and was valued at ap- proximately 8500,000 by officials of Struthers and Barry, at that time Operators of the vessel for the Shipping
Board.
According to San Francisco under- writers, virtually ali of the coverage en the cargo was placed in San Francisco, there being no insurance on the bull.
