THE LATE MR. HO FOOK.
IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL AT YAT PITTING.
فراد
H.E THE GOVERNOR AND OTHER PROMINENT MEMBERS OF COMMUNITY PRESENT"
HUGE CONCOURSE PAY THEIR LAST RESPECTS.
With much impressiveness, but carried out with simplicity, compared with the lavish display usually associated with the funerals of rich Chinese, the funeral of the late Mr. Ho Fook, whose death was reported in Monday's Daily Press, took place yesterday afternoon. The universal respect which was felt for him by all classes and sections of the community; both Chinese and European, and by whom his death is much deplored, was demonstrated by the huge concourse which assembled at Yat Pit Ting, Kennedy Town, to pay their last respects.
From the time the procession started from the residence of the late Mr. Ho Fook, No. 13, Kennedy Road, thousands of people watched the cortege pass by, and special arrangements were made by the police to cope with an abnormally heavy rush of traffic during the funeral procession.
It is estimated that between 5,000 and 6,000 people, the majority being Chinese, of course, but which included numerous Europeans, assembled at Yat Pit Ting
H.E. the Governor (Sir Cecil Clementi, K.C.M.G.) attended and made his bow before the coin in the Farewell Pavilion," being followed by many lending members of the European community. There then followed into the pavilion an endless stream of members of all classes aud sections of the Chinese community.
"FAREWELL PAVILION."
As stated, a very large number of people followed the cortège from Keu- nedy Road to the Yat Pit Ting, known As the Farewell Pavilion." The pro- cession went by way of Garden Road and Queen's Road Central, where a halt was tade at the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank, Messrs. E: D. Sassoon & Co. and The the Mercantile Bank of India. cortege was headed by the motor-cycle police under Insp. Alexander, the East Surrey Regt. Baud, St. John Ambulance Corps and a detachment of Indian and Chinese police, district watchmen, and the 20th Hongkong Troop of Boy Scouts. The Confucius Society Band and etu- dents of the Confucius Society School were also present.
Next came the portrait of the late Mr. Ho Fook, and then the three tiered catafalque with the mourners in the
rear.
"The procession went on through Ice House Street to Des Voeux Road Central to halt in front of Messrs. Jardine, Mintheson & Co., Ltd, and then to Pottinger Street and Queen's Road Cen tral to the Tai Yau Bank. Along Queen Street, halting at Messrs. Yue Lee Yuen and onwards to Des Voeux Road West, balting at Fook Kes.
