HIGHER TONNAGE, BUT VERY LOW FREIGHTS.

The tonnage entered yesterday was Tisondari, Dutch str., 8.091 toas. Capt.higher than on the previous day, although J. J. Dait, from Shanghai and Kee-one-vessel-less-arrived, but the freight lung. The latter port she left on returns were very low, being, in fact, August 8th, with a general cargo, only one third of the total tonnage The lying at buoy No. As.-J.C.J.L.

At 9 a.m. yesterday there were 47 vessels in the harbour, of which 23 were British. During the previous twenty- four hours eight vessels arrived, five British, one Dutch and three Chinese. The departures during the previous twenty-four hours came to six, viz, one Swedish for Shanghai, two British for Amoy, one Chinese for Hauhoi, one British-for-Keelung, and one Chinese for Sha Chung. There were four clear- H. P. Carver, from Tientsin and 3, ris,, one French for Kwang Chow Weihaiwei. The latter port she left Wan, one British for Haiphong, one on August 6th, with a general cargo, Japanese for Swatow and one Italian for lying at buoy, No. 34.-B. & S.

SHIPPING NOTES.

At the Marine Court yesterday, be- fore Lieut. Commander G. F. Hole, R.N., the steersman of a trading junk was fined 815, with the alternative of two weeks' hard labour, for failing to carry regulation lights while under way. The steersman of a cargo, boat was fined 85, or five days' hard labour in default, (for mooring his craft inshore within a distance of less than 100 yards of low water mark at night.

While attebmting to berth alongside the Ping On wharf, West Point, at 2 a.m. on Tuesday, the steam-launch Wing Fook met with a mishap. She bllided with the wharf, which caused her to take in water rapidly, and, despite pumping, she ultimately sank. Later, however, she was raised, and is now in dock at Sham Shui Po for repairs. No lives were lost

The total number of deck passengers entered for the twenty-four hours ended, at 9 a.m. yesterday was 493, of which the s.s. Hydrangea (British) from Kwang Chow Wan carried 303.
