Ata.m. yesterday there were vessels in the harbour, of which 31 were British. During the previous 24 hours 17 vessels arrived. (against ten on the previous day), vi, twelve British, one American, two Japanese and two Ch nese. The departures over the the same period came ten, viz., one German and ty-one French for Shanghai, one British for Singapore, one-British for Focchow, one British for Amoy, one French for Saigch, one British for. Kwang Chow Wan, one Japanese for Tsingtau, one Chinese for Hauboi, and one Chinese for Sha U Chung. There was only one clearance, a British steamer for Amoy.

The Douglaar Steamship Company -Hni."} ching is due to leave Hongkong for Ocean Ishind and Apia (Samoa) on Tuesday, July 20th. with first and second class passengers, for whom there is limited accommodation, and with cargo, etc. The return voyage will take about 45 to 50 days. This is not a new departure by the Company which has always been engaged in the coastal trude (Hongkong) Bwatow, Amoy, Epochow) but that only ore trip has been contemplated by the charterer of the Huiching.

Of the cargo for Hongkong, eight out of the twelve British vessels brought 0.503 tons between them, the heaviest entries being 3,340 tons, 1,598 tons, 1,170- Four vessels of tons and 1,200 tons. other tags brought 2,280 tons between them, with one entry for 1284 tons Avith regard to freight for other ports, three British steamers carried 20,136 tons between them, the entrics reading. 8,738 tons, 6,900 tons and 4,500 tons. vessels of other nationalities carried 3,769 tens and 1,200 tons, respectively.

A notice to mariners which appears in the Harbour Office and has been issued by the Customs Authorities at Shanghai, under date of July 1st, states:That

Kurmala left Shanghai blasting operations, which have been tem porarily in abeyance, are about to be and is due here on the 9th inst. at 5 a.m, tv renewed on the wreck of the 6.3. 2ng for Hongkong on the 8th inst. at 5 p.m. "Shing, which lies sunk in the Whangpoo, "The R.M.S. Empress of Russia arrived

about 6 cables seaward of Black Point. It is essential, in the interest of the safe: ty of those engaged in the work, and of the expedition of the work itself, that the water in the vicinity of the wreck be disturbed to as small agree as is possible. Those in command of vessels navigating. the Whangpoc are, therefore, requested to proceed at dead slow speed when ap proaching, and passing, the vicinity of the wreck. The attention of those in command of Torpedo Boat Destroyers and other highly powered craft is specially drama to this request..
