At Manchester on Saturday the weather was fine and warm, in fact ideal cricket weather, when more than 23,000 spectators, turned out to witness the opening of the the match between Lancashire and Australians.
Lancashiro, won the toes, and the Australians had disposed of the claven before tes time. They had scored only 149, of which Hallows contributed 65 (including a six bit and ten fours). Mailey took seven wickets for 74 runs.
When play was brought to a close the Australians had knocked up 12 for 8 wickets, Macartney being 82 (not out).
