So far the results have been as expected, with the Sewell-Reilmord match the only exception.

The value of a 'sound defence, as evi- dened by this match, cannot be too emphatically described, and the rising young players of the Colony should make it an object lesson.

Last Monday Redmond was playing the Aarst game he had played for a long time, and it was evident that he was the better man, but there was not the speed behind his shots to pass Sewell, who, working like a trojan, ran from one side of the cart to the other and managed to save ost of Redmond's nice shots, which rather exasperated the latter's to his own detriment, devell, borever. is fully deserving of his victory, for his success de ended more upon a keen anticl. pation of his opponents shits' and a know." ledge of Redmond's temperament than all the running and saving he did in the matcha

In the Handicap Class, Rolla won by just over half a minute from La Linda who was unlucky not to have got home Dinz was third, and Dorother fourth.

Three other three classes, raced together, Bluentiae was first, Pierrette second, and Garl third.

Sealunk, Lola and Adels did not finish until late.

Sik boats started on the craiser race for the Commodore's Cups yesterday, but of wind. The boats which started from were: the race was unfinished owing to the lack the Yachs Club at 10.30 .m. nee aad 1, Mist, Norseman, Lurige Jean, Brenda and Loghette. Nearly an hour was taken for the first bouts to reach Lyemun, when a little breeze was picked up. Round D'Aguilar, Coquette was first, and i seeand, and Norsemen third, but when Tytan head was reached there was no wind at all. The boats drifted about for Lome time, and then the race was aban doned. Bonts" with motor engines towed the other boats to Repulse Ray. At Cape Collinson the boats went into a thick feg, and the yachtsmen could not see each other's boats for some time.

Two promising young players, W. Chou and F. Cirose, are unfortunately indisposed and have to concede walk overs to R. M. Henderson and H. Lo respec tively.

The departure of I. M. Razack from the Colony to Shanghai breaks up the Ruzack- Cassumbbey combination which is second only to the Rumjahns in the Indian Re creation Chib.

There is a great deal of apprehension the present time that Ng Sze Kwong. ahout the best and most popular figure. will not be able to continue to take part in the championships. It is said he nut undergo an immediate operation. It will be a sourer of great disappointment if that is so, and both players and followers of the game will join together in wishing that the trouble will not prove as serious hs to make his withdrawal imperative.

Although for a long time past rumours bave been in circulation et proposed amalgamation of the N... with the T.K.K., and as a matter of fact, schemes in view, the proposed fusing of the two have beca put forward with that object big Companies did not go through owing to disssat over the terms. Recent rego- tintions, however, re-opened through the good offices of certain influential Japanese men, have succeeded in bringing both parties together in agreeing to the terms and conditions drafted by them, so that a provisional contract was entered into, which contract by the extraordinary general meetings held respectively by the T.K.K. and N.Y.K. On the 18th February and 10th March was adopted By the amalgamation thus finalised. by the shareholders of ench Company the NF.K. will take over from the T.K.K. the wration of the San Fran visca Line and the South American (West toast) Line, including the following eight steamers:-

The Hongkong Office of the N..K. will commence the booking of freight and passages over the San Francisco and South Amerionn routes from to-day, and the first steamer to be operated under the new regime will be the ss. It may here be stated that the Nippon Yusen Kaisha, since its establishment in 1883, has made rapid progress in develop- ing and expanding its steamship busi ness, and with the amalgamation with the T.K.K. just concluded, the N.Y.K. is adding to its world-wide services wo LONDON, March 14th.
