STOCK EXCHANGE IN 1925.
SPECULATORS' YEAR.
The City Editor of a London paper writes:
Feer
In the Stock Exchange the year 1925 will be best known as tho of the second big rubber boom, un event that has brought welcome relief to many a firm whose resources had been depleted by lack during the past few years of any really big speculative move.
ment..
Among Home securities the acute weakness of the stocks of the three big railways whose profits depend on the condition of the country's trade has cast an overshadowing gloom, but there have been some bright features in the shares of many British industrial undertakings, the profits of some of which depend partly on trade abroad.
The shares of the tobacco companies, some of the electrical construction com panies, and the great artificial silk bugi- ness of Courtaulds have been outstand- ing instances.
Tin, thanks to its rapid rise in price, has provided an interesting companion to the rubber "boom," and some mining experts are expecting an important re- vival in the ancient Cornish tin-mining industry unless some other field is dis- covered to replace the alluvial felde abroad when those are exhausted.
U.S. RUBBER ORDEAL. TYRE COMPANY TREBLES ITS "
PROFITS.
An amusing commentary on the bard. ships imposed on American rubber manu. facturers by the alleged prico manipu lations of British producers is supplied by the balance-sheet of the Fisk Rubber: Company.
It shows gross sales amounting to £15,000,000, or a gain of 41 per cent, over- the previous year. Its profits are over £1,800,000, and whereas for 1924 it de- clared a dividend of 78., for 1928, despite. an increased number of shares, its net earnings amount to slightly over share.
