FUTURE OF COAL INDUSTRY.

CASE FOR OWNERS AND MEN.

He did not believe low wages would help Great Britain. A country of low wages was a country marching to bank- raptcy. Our real competition on the Continent was Germany, and it was said we must got down to wages and hours comparable to those prevailing there. Our own output pär, man was greater than the German output, even on a shorter working day. The only countries which had a bigger output per man than ours were America and Upper Silesia.

Nothing has yet been decided as to the position of the guarantors, but it is suggested that before the asects are realized, the guarantors will be asked to make up the deficit. After the assets have been disposed of, any available surplus would then be returned to the guarantora. The impression conveyed by the deputation to the Prime Minister was that the majority of the guarantors are in favour of continuing a portion of Wembley as an Empire resort, but this is a matter on which the Dominions would doubtless have to be consulted. On the other hand, thers ara, a certain number of the guarantors who feel that the assets should be realized without fur- ther delay.
