Sir Arthur Keith's great book, The Autoguity, of Man." of which a revised edition has just been issued is of special interest in connection with Professor Dart's discovery of the skull of a man. like upe
in Behanaland. Sir Arthur co-relates the deposits and the implements previously found there, with those found urar Ipswich, and states that we must inter that from a vast antiquity both South Africans and East Angling were subject to the various cultural waves which slowly ciept over the world from "time la, time.”

far the most distant ancestor we hav reached in Enginud is the Pilt-down Man." of Sussex, who showed a "simian blend"; its we turn to South Africa wą find the Rhodesian Man" much more, brutally ape-like.
Now Professor Dart's discovery sug gests that the links in man's ancestry inay be extended into a past infinitely remate, since he characterises the fossilis ed Bechuanaland skill as that not of a ape-like mar, hit of a man-like ape-a foreshadowing of the human being, as yet unable to talk, but a much more intelligent being than the gorilla or the chimpanzee
It is all of tremendous interest, and. certainty, as Sir Arthur says, "in South Africa is being revealed an unexpected chapter in the history of mankind."
A more recent message from Capetown 539-Professor Dart is an Australian, born in Brisbane in 1883. The geological age of the Taang skull remains to be es tablished, but it is generally accepted. that "the find belongs to a period far more remote than the broken Hill skull, and probably is 5,000,000 years of. It is now clear that the skull is not that of an adult, but of a creature probably about six years of age.
WHEN IS A MAN DRUNK?
Dr. Percy Spurgin, the divisional police surgeon, giving evidence at the Maryle bone Police Court recently, against a chanteur, on a charge of being drunk while in charge of a motor car, said the man was just over the border line-that was all. He was too meticulous to be absolutely normal.
Mr. Hay Halkett (the Magistrate): I should defino drunkenness as the condi-: tion of a person who has drunk so much that he cannot co-ordinate his faculties
cannot speak or walk" properly, or da something which he can normally do.
Dr. Spurgin: I should say a man is drunk when by reason of alcoholism he'; is not able accirately to carry out his ordinary avocation,
"The same thing," said the Magis trate, who discharged the man,... Ending that he was not in charge of the car.
