SCHEMES FOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

Two of the biggest schemes which hara' been prepared by the Ministry of Trans port for submission to the London Traffic Advisory Committee, with a view to re- lieving congestion in the centre of Lon don, were described in detail, recently by Sir Henry Maybury, chairman of the Committee. These provide for the con- struction of a turnél nade the Thames,

connecting Dartford and Purfeet, and for the widening and improving of the Victoria Dock-road.

The two schemes are estimated to vosi about £6,500,000, and, will take probably about three years to carry out in each case. If they are approved by the Com- mitter, the Minister of Transport will

DEFLECTING TRAFFIC FROM LONDON Commenting on the scheme, Sir Henry Maybury said he believed it would res duce the slow-moving traffic between London and the docks by one third. vertical Exis supported on the fuselage close to the pilot's seat. The sails are about three feet from his head, and they rotate in a plane inclined slightly upwards in the direction of flight. The fuselage is fitted with landing wheels, a tail skid,

a rudder. Lateral balance is maintained by separate control- long spar curried forward on the fuselagu and extending right and left, each ex- tremity carrying a small place which can be actuated by the pilot's controls.

*The machine starts off in the ordinary aeroplane way, but at very low speed the sails are rotated by the sweep of the air, and their rotation, it is said, part produces sufficient lift to cause the ma chine
