The results of this election aro almost incredible even to those who knew that an appeal to the country under the present system was nothing more or loss than a gamble. were 3 coutested seats, of which the Conservatives secured the substantial majority of 34; but when we examine" the votes we find that 23 Conservatives poll ed in those seats 4,000, whereas Liberal and Labour combined polled 750,000 and secured only 2 seats. These three illus trations show the way in which Great Britaia elects a House of Commons, which is supposed to be representative of all the citizens, and which has authority to act on behalf of all of them. There is no assurance whatever that, re- presentation within the House of Com- mons will be in accordance with the votes cast at the polls.

THE ALTERNATIVE VOTEL There are still one who believe that the alternative vote is a preferable method of voting to P.R. It might have made a difference in one or two coa stituencies, bat just as in 1918 when there Wils similar overwhelming turn of opinion the alternative vote would have made hardly any impression upon the result. I 1919 Mr. Asquith was at the bottom of the polland in this election alan. The alternative vote in both casES would have been useless as a means of raining for the service "of the country many of those leading men who would have been of the utmost value" to the nation ie the coming years. Under P.E. Mr. Asquith's constitueney would have heen Renfrew, and would have included the two county divisions of Renfrew and the two boroughs of Paisley, and Gree rock. In this last election there were several candidates for each party, and the total poll was as follows:

As there were four to be elected any candidate who pulled one-fourth (to be precise one more than a Afth) of the votes would be sure of election. Mr. Asquith would have polled sufficient votes in Renfrew to ensure being chosen- as one of the four

It will be remembered that in 1917 the Speaker's Conference, which was com- posed of members of all parties, unani mously recommended P.R.. Many Liberala on that occasion underrated the part which methods of election play in our affairs. They gave no adequate study to the problem, but it is for all citizens now, Liberal, Conservative, and Labour, to consider. afresh, what should be the permanent principles of electing the House of Cotazous.

It seems as first sight that with so over- whelming a majority there will be little opportunity for raising the question in the near future, but the problem of re- presentation is continually cropping up, and not merely in connection with the House of Commons. It can be safely pro phesied that towards the close of this Parliament events will, have happened which will compel men to examine again the whole problem of representation. No aspect of the constitutional issue ca be raised without also raising a discus Bion, which goes to the root of the foun- dations of the House of Commony itself

1-The Willys-Knight car is the four cylinder motored car that makes the six

unnecessary.

The Knight motor is steam principle. The valvos two cylindrical sleeves with rectangular slot or ports which when they register with each other and the ports is the block allow the ingress and egress of the gases without abstraction. These wide open prangos, particularly on the exhaust side, permit a more thorough cleaning of the burnt gas from the combustion chamber than any other type of motor, so that every ounce of energy available abilized from the explosive mixture, which gives us such tremendous power

2-It has no valve to grind and no carbon to clean,

The combustion chamber is completely surrounded by water and an alloy piston noted for its great hea radiating qualities is used so neither the combustion chamber ner the head of the piston gets hot enough to bake the residue from the expored gases to form cachen while there is still enough heat maintained to handle the explosive mirture affectively.

-It is the only type of motor that improves with ase.

While carbon can nos form in the combustion chamber, still a certain amount of the residue from the burnt gas works up behind the wide sealing ring in the cylinder head and as this building process obtains, it keeps pashing this sealing ring more tightly against the inner sleeve until it completely seals the compression chamber developing more power with every mile the motor in drawn.

-It is the only type of motor that wears in while other wears out,

All parts in the Willys Knight car are assembled with wide clearance between each other and oil is forced into these clearances under heavy pressure so that the entire assembly is lapping or wearing in on these heavy films of oil instead of wearing out. In other words, every bearing in this motor is an oil bearing instead of a meiki to metal bearing which is necessary in the construction of puppet valve motor in order to keep it quiet with subsequent quick wear and noise,

It has eliminated one hundred and sixty two quick wearing parts necessary in the operation of a cylindlared, poppet valve motor.
