FOR A PIPE OF TOBACCO,

A short time ago (writes & correspon- dent) I had the opportunity of a con versation with a criminal awaiting oxe- cution.

Far from being the depressing, exper ience that one would naturally "expect, our meeting was as cheerful as though we were talking across the table of our favourite cafe, and the setting, though perhaps a little strange, was no less pleasantly comfortable,

but for a cigarette.
