JAPANESE FOREIGN TRADE.
TARIFF REVISION.
It is officially stated today (writes The Times correspondent at Tokyo on Nov. 11th) that Japan is preparing to open negotiations with Germany for the con- clusion of a treaty or commercial agres- ment on the most-favoured nation basis with a view to re-establishing pre-war conditions.
Under the agreement recently conclud ed with Mexico, Japan renounces all elaims for damages sustained by Japanese nationals during the revolutionary period. Japan wishing to pave the way for Japanese immigrants into Mexico.
The 12-year-old tariff will undergo revi sion at the forthcoming session of the Diet, with probablo benefit to British manufacturers, the present Anglo-Japan- es convention expiring next March. Owing to public agitation there may also be a modification of the luxury tax.
