PARIS FASHION NOTES.

A RESUME OF THE AUTUMN COLLECTIONS.

[FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT,

ISABEL RAMSAY.

PARIS, September 22nd. The styles for the new season may be coandered as deänitely launched, at pre- wont. Unly one important house has still to show its collection: Madelaine Vion- net, whose créations are always a deânito

contribution to the season but who is not expected to differ essentially from the lines already shown by the rest of the couturiers, It is, however, interesting to note the wide variations which the best couturiers can achieve while keeping to the general formula of the season's styles. Each great couturier shows his (or her, for women are among the finest, creators of the day) personality in the models put forth. The result is most advantageous from every point of view. It gives cach woman a chance to select the couturier whose ideas and ideals seem, to her, to express her personality and her concep- | tion of modernity. The formula of the season can be generally summed up as: Straight lines, comfortably short skirts, beltless costumes, when that is becoruing, and the varied use of tunics, either in the form of the tunic bleuse or the tunic at tached to the skirt. The dominant period influence is of the Directoire in France, and this is variously interpreted by the Creators, some using no more than the suggestion of a single ne of the ebarac- teristic costumes of that epoch, others very literally transcribing such features as collars, revers, long buttoned coats, shoulder capes, the high waistline, and so forth.

TMH HER FRENCH BEMEDY.

Worth's collection is always interesting because the house is the oldest in Paris, one that has stood the test of time and has always dressed such important women as the Empress Eugenic, Queen Victoria Noble and the Princess" Metternich. ladies from all over Europe still consider Worth as the finest and most sympathe tic creator of fashions, which have the dignity and distinction that they require in all of their clothes. Worth this year has an unusually beautiful collection. He has contributed to the mode a novel cutting of the long, narrow coat which achieves absolete straightness of line. These coats wrap about the figure, and sometimes are held shut, but they do not drape nor do they fold over deeply in the front. Some are a long as to almost cover the frock beneath them, and some are three quarter or seven-eighths" length. Worth shows same extremely short skirt lengths. some of the suits stopping just below the knee. Other suits and most of the frocks and gowas, however, are much longer. Fullness is introduced into the skirts in the form of inverted box pleats placed at the centre front of the skirt, or panels of very fine pleating at the sides. Many of the models have long tunics, Bome as long as the slip under them. The straight beltless line dominates in these, and many of them are split at the sides, at the front, or at all three points. Black satin goes to make a number of suits, and black satin combined with some soft wool inaterial makes others. 'very anart.
