The Union of South Africa is a sgat of Western culture, and civilisation. Europeans, have been settled thera, for merly thirge centuries,

it is a country that merita the attention of those Europeans who con- template leaving the Far East. If they are retiring on pension, there xre many pleasant South Africa town in which to live. Or if they took a career, and have a moderata capital there is scope in, South African farm-, lag for lastance in fruit-growing,

The climate is good." It is sunny but temperate being neither inclement in winter noe oppressive in mammer. It is a genial climate in which Euro- paans, including women and children, thrive without periudiciuly going abroad.

Educational facilities for the young 'are excellent. The larger towns ara 'up-to-date and well-equipped. There are numerous resorts-mountain, river and marine, for an occasional change. In short, the Univŭ of South Africa is a more than ordinarily attractive country for those who bare an assured Income or the. capital with which to start a career.

A comprehensive official publication on the subject is being issued. It com tains, for twenty typical South African e towns, specific data about climate, envirgament, amenities; housing, cost of living, servants and generally such information as will enable enquirers to judge urban residential conditions' in ' the Union of South Africa. Expiaux- tory publications on farming are also available.

The Surreys fully deserved their win being superior in all departments of the game except probably in goal for Dou glas was not tested. Rodger, although biten three times, was good in goal, and the goals against him were due to the de- fence letting the forwards, get too clone in. Stewart, being content with watch- ing Eaton, did not play his usual game. Jones was off form, probably due to being up against a strong player like Mitchell. Although South China fully deserved to win, the margin does not do justice the R.A. team. The faulty shooting of the RA. and the lack of combination was the undoing of a good team, South Chinn backs were very safe, while the middle line, ably fed by Leung Yuk Tang, broke up any attempts at com hipation by the R.A forwards. Ip Kas, formerly a first division player, will no doubt he persuaded to again assist his Mr C. W. Alexander side.
