CAPTURE OF A MERMAID

A Siamese paper, published at Barg kok, states that about twenty days ago a fisherman living at Tharabel Krok Krk, Tacheen. while casting his net in the sen seized a young mermaid. It is described as having long golden coloured hair, a face akin to a monkey, handa and fingers like a monkey and heing very hairy about its body. The lower part of the body has a long tail. When the cap- ture was effected the Esherman did not take the mermaid out of the net, but look it wrapped up to his house. About two or three days later seven villagers went. down to the sea to dive for oysters and five of them have disappeared. The story goes tant the mother of the captured mermaid has taken revenge and killer those who went to the sen to gather oysters. It is also stated that at night time now is heard a wailing sound of the mother of the young mermaid.
