The Suez Canal and the Panama Canal have been built, at the Channel Tunael remains to be constructed, and will be built so sum as the Glaverumpat of this country withdraws its opposition

Sir Percy Tempest, late manager and engineer of the Southern Railway, who has studied the subject of the Tunnet for years, in March fast informed the House of Commons Channel Tunnel Committee that his estimate of the rest of the Tunnel was twenty-nine million pounds, and the revenue base on the 10 traffe receipts would work out at about £1.500.000 a year, or just over five per cent, an the cost.

What the increase in the traffic from the construction of the Turnel will be no se sam say, but one of the principal "tourist agents thinks the present passen

ger traffic may increase ten times.

The Tunnel will be constructed mes half with English capital and one-half French, and will he jointly owned and worked.
