THE GOOD SIDE OF DANGING.
Mr. January Mortimer, writing in a London paper says:--
In the province of Quebec dateing has. The bean banned by Cardinal Begin. attitude of canonical authority towards the dance has never been rigld and uni form. A large number of the clergy have encouraged dancing, and up to the four- teenth century in England symbolic re tigious dances were part of the ritual in cathedral services.
When an Archbishop of Seville, in 1600. endeavoured to suppress the ritual dane. ing in the cathedral, the King issued a deeree sanctioning the arcient custom.
St. Basil said the angels in Heaven dance, and St, Chrysostom advocated Secular dancing Way encourage in dancing as a form of worship in Antioch,
AU Spain by the Church is an outlet for emotion and redundants energy. attempts to suppress the dance have failed in the past, and there is ample evidence for stating that they will fail
e-day and in the future.
Dancing is the very oldest of the arts. Long before men scratchel pictures on stones and carved in ages they discover ed the joy of bodily rhythmic motion,
Many Dancing is older than mankind. species of birds indulge in ecstatic danc ing in the spring.
Universally dancing has been associat- ed with religion, love, music, warfare, and education. The dance has sym bolised all that man most values in life.
Wise legislators in every stage of civilisation have commended dancing, realising the profound truth tf t need joy in order to become good."
The Seasonal dancing festivals of old were regarded as essential for the liberation of pent-up energy. They were factors of serial hygiene,
men
At a later, period the village folk dances provided aesthetic expression for the mass of the people. These dances were dramatic representations of every. day life and common emotions. They imitated the sowing of grain, reaping, other forms of labour, and the chase.
The revival of these dances in schools has proved both educative and hygienic. Everywhere and in all ages the majority of human beings have appeased the craving for beauty by engaging in the ilance or watching the graceful move- ments of dancers. The desire for this kind of motor activity is ineradicable. The smallest child attempts to dance as No decrees can soon as he can walk. destroy this deep-rooted instinct for ex- pressing joyous emotion.
A large number of elty dwellers suffer from
neuro-ouscular irritability, which is relieved by dancing after the day's sedentary labour. There is no other available and wholesome relief for very many persons. Bans on dancing are a meduce to the well-being of n community and should be resisted by social reformers,
GIRL POISONER SENTENCED. FIFTEEN OFFERS OF MARRIAGE
DURING THE TRIAL.
A sensational lawsuit against Milich Vukobrankovic, which lasted five days and stirred Vienna profoundly, had sonte exceptional features. The gifted and impericus young lady, who wrote poems. Erst worked as teacher at an elementary school and afterwards became secretary to a publisher. She had a liaison with him and tried to remore his wife and children by poisoning them with white lead, which she contrived to get into rusks and other foods instead of sugar. She declared that she bad acted in a state of dreaming."
Of great psychological interest wera her. descent and antecedents. She is of Serb extraction, and one of her ances tors, some centuries ago, was a ruler, a Voyvoda. Her tribe, having to fight against any enemies, was banished and outlawed, and in course of time deter iorated so badly that all of them ended as degenerates. Milica is the last of this unfortunate clan. Some years ago she was charged with having attempted to poison a family, also in connection with. a man who interested her. She is of an extremely hysterical disposition..
Y
At the trial just finished she denied her guilt repeatedly, although it could easily be proved. When painful details of her life were revealed she would jump up and run out of the court, and in order. to make her come back the audience had several times to be excluded. Later on the judge and Public Prosecutor chang- ed their attitude and treated her very severely, and the prisoner vehemently protested against being tortured."
There is much discussion in the Press and among the public whether it was right to sentence her to three years and a half prison instead of perhaps send- ing her to a bospital, as none of the poisoned persons had died or suffered unduly from the consequences of her crime. During the trial she received no fewer than fifteen offers of marriage.

UNHAPPY LOVERS.
A-MABB-ŠETINⱭ.
The following notion, was recently pub- lished by the newspapers in the town of St. Etienne and district:
All the victims of ill-assorted marri- ages in St. Etienne, Firminy, and envir gas, and all those who are unhappy in love, are argently requested to be present at a meeting which will take place on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the market square, with the object of appoint ing a committee and organising an appro. priate banquet"

Reports say that the attendance was considerable, and that a resolution to meet at a convivial gathering to discuss a subsequent line of action was passed unanimously.

Why Baby cries
Baby cries to let you know that all is not well with him; the poor little fellow has no other way of telling you. Health and happiness go hand in hand in babyhood, and Baby's cries usually mean that his... food does not agree with him.
