The High Court of Justice in England and the Minister of Finance for the Dominion of Canada having previously approved, the share- holders and policy-holders of the China Mutual and Shanghai Life have, at meet ings specially called for the purpose, also approved and the Supreme Court in Shanghai has now issued the final order making the agreements absolute. The security at the back of their policies will be considerably increased since the sets of the combined Companies will exceed £45,000,000 whereas the assets of the two China Companies amount to } £3,000,000. Also, the Sun. Com- pany's basis of valuation assumes an in- terest earning of three per cent, the a five per China Companies valuing on cent. basis. The practical effect of this is that reserves set up as security against the policy liabilities of the Sun Life Com- pany are about 12 per cent. greater than those hitherto set up against the habilities of the China.
