LONDON, December tik. The mysterious death of Phillippe Daudet, fourteen-year-old son of Mr. Leon Dandot, leader of the French Royalists and Editor of the Royalist newspaper, L'Action Francaire, seems to possess all the elements of a cause célèbre. The whole of Fauce is passionately excited, and the affair over. shadows temporarily every other subject.

A taxi driver, hearing a shot in a cab a fortnight ago, found Philippe dying. It is regarded as clear case of suicide, as the driver is positive that nobody else was in the cabat the time. The father concurred and the affair was hushed up, but the Editor of the Anarchist newspaper. Philippe gave the Editor A letter, which is admittedly authentic, al- dressed to his mother, asking forgiveness for the grief he was causing and also pro- fousing anarchism. BRITISH RELATIONS WITH FRANCE,

LONDON, December 9th. Paris. Interviewed by a correspondent of Le Journal in London, Lord Haldane declared that France would be mistaken in supposing that the accession of the Liberals and Labour to power would mean a rupture with France.

The Liberals, like the rest of the country, keenly and sincerely desired an understand. ing with France, and aimed at taking, in concert with France, measures calculated to set Germany on her feet. The keynote of their policy towards France would be to avoid anything that might lead to a war in which Great Britain would be bound to be involved. There must be an understanding in regard to the Rubr, etc., and a programme embodying guarantees for
