The interval which has elapsed since our last report of the 21st instant has boen mostly occupied by the Christains Holidays, and practically very little busi nesa has resulted, but prices on the whole have been well maintained.

The market in the North is more or less, unchanged.

We take this opportunity of wishing all our clients a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Banks-Hongkong and Shanghai Banks ahew a slight recovery and they have been dealt up to $1,065 The Lonilon price viz £123 (middle) is unchanged.

Marine and Fire Insurances-L'aions have been booked at 8:34. Cantons have spurted to $725 aod Hongkong Fires to $525 China Fires have advanced to 1140. North Chinas are asked for at Tls .140,

Shipping-Hongkong, Canton Macao Steamboats have been bought at 847) and $48. Star Ferries are steady at 86 Douglas Steamships at $57 bave not

Refineries-There has been more de mand for China Sugars and they have. changed hands up to 824

It would appear also from the violent #actuations in the price of the raw staple that speculatorge still con- trolling the situation and until the with.. drawal of this element from the market there seems little hope of any stability of price regulated by the genuine factors of supply and demand. Under such circum- stances it is not surprising that potential buyers are content to watch the situation and confine themselves to the purchase of odd lots of stocks.
